Welcome to the new 2007 website edition! To those who are return visitors you will notice my change in photographic direction from colour work to the world of black and white. The reason for this change is simple: I needed a change! I needed to rekindle my creativity by changing the way I see the world around me. The subject matter I wanted to investigate photographically and emotionally was such that it lent itself to the bare essentials of composition: light, line, and texture. The interplay of these elements combine to produce infinite possibilities for the photographic artist to examine and analyze, seeking out the "poorer quarters" of what surrounds us constantly, and pulling out a poignant perspective on the seemingly mundane. The secret, metaphoric compositions lay before us all if we take the time to stop, and look, and think, and feel. Unfortunately time is such a precious commodity that few people invest it in simplicities.

Well, here on this website you will see the time I have invested in examining the subtleties of our surroundings: 1/4 of a second here, 1/500th of a second there, perhaps 2 seconds and sometimes 10 seconds. The brief click of a cameras shutter can capture a depth of thought that causes one to stop and ponder many thoughts as the print hanging on the wall is studied in detail. It's not just what is included in the surrounding frame and glass but what is intentionally excluded: the objects of distraction and confusion. I know that few of you coming to this website will spend more than 1 minute here; just enough time to click through the photos and move on. But for those of you who read this I encourage you to stop and re-examine the world surrounding you and seek to learn from the subtle details and lessons secretly hidden in light, line, and texture. |
